Japanese manufacture, Edo period, circa 1800. This is a VERY scarce lock

2″ high x 6 1/2″ wide. High copper content Brass body. High copper content brass shackle. The key is old but not original. Compressed spring mecanism in very typical Edo period shape. Overall “Fire Gilt” finish using mercury and gold.
