Lock Photography – Simple Guide
Follow these tips to get good photos using the equipment you already have.
Taking Photos
- Place the lock on white paper when possible for better contrast and easier editing.
- A well lit environment works well
- Use optical zoom, not digital zoom.
- Smartphones (like iPhones) work great.
- Flat padlocks can also be scanned at 300 dpi, 24-bit color for good results.
Note: Professional-quality photos take practice and better equipment, but these tips will get you solid results.
Submitting Photos
Include a photo of the original key, if available.
Send one lock per form submission
Take photos of both the front and back of the lock.
Include the height, depth, and width of the lock.
Please include all text on the lock in your notes
